People sometimes ask me why I run (although now that running is booming, it’s a question I get less often). It remains a hard one to answer. I love many things about running. But it’s hard to condense them into one pithy answer.

As it happens, my daughter Alex celebrated her first “runiversary” this week, and she’s done a beautiful job of summarising, on her Insta account, what running means to her.

So this week, I offer you this, from “a girl who passionately hated running” but has transformed into “a girl who couldn’t imagine life without it lol”.

I can’t top that! Well done Alex, so proud of you.

It’s time to Guzzle

This weekend one of the top races on the trail running calendar in my home territory of South East Queensland will take place. I’ve run a variety of different distances at The Guzzler - the 50k, the 21k and the 10k.

This year I’m running the 21k. The blue ribbon 100k remains firmly on my wishlist. I’d like to complete the set. Maybe in 2027…

The races wind their way through D’Aguliar National Park and Mt Coot-tha in Brisbane’s west. It’s almost literally my backyard. The trails are gorgeous and the event’s always been well organised. I can’t wait!
